If your Tampa Bay home already has solar panels and now needs a new roof, you might be facing a challenge most homeowners aren’t aware of: your solar panel warranty could be voided if you don’t handle things correctly.
Why This Matters:
Solar panels can’t stay mounted during a roof replacement. But Metro Builders does NOT remove or reinstall solar panels—and for good reason. Nearly all solar systems are covered by a third-party warranty provider, and only that company (or their authorized agent) should detach and reset them. If we—or any roofer—attempted to do this, your warranty could be invalidated.
What You Should Do:
- Call your solar provider before scheduling roof work.
- Ask them to handle the “detach & reset” portion of the job.
- Schedule that work to line up with Metro Builders’ re-roofing schedule.
- Confirm in writing that your warranty will remain intact.
Metro Builders will coordinate around your solar warranty provider’s timeline and ensure your new roof is properly installed beneath your panels—without voiding warranties.
